I was laid off from my job after the completion of a merger. The downturn in the economy and the wave of lay-offs in the area made landing even so much as an interview very difficult in the Information Technology job market. But the completion of my first certification at TechSkills for Microsoft SQL Server was enough to get the technical recruiters to ring my telephone again. Most recently, with TechSkills' help, I have completed the Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) certification. I've since had three interviews with Microsoft itself, and the phone continues to ring.

Recently, a local IT company contacted TechSkills about a software developer position. After two successful interviews, the company hired me, and I started today! I spent over a month researching and investigating every school in the area. I was actually on my way to pay considerably more for a one-year program at another school, when I heard a TechSkills advertisement and decided to call. Last weekend, I attended a preparation class for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam. The instructor was on the board of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). The class was extremely beneficial and included a two-hour mock exam to simulate the conditions and content of the CPC exam. Everyone in the class was already employed as a Medical Coder, except for me. After the exam, the instructor told me that I had the highest score (56/60) in the class! There are many training schools out there competing for the student pool, boasting that they can reduce the certification process to a minimum time period. While this can be viewed as positive, the downside is that students are given less time to actually learn the material. This was not the case at TechSkills, where I was given ample time to certify and to learn.

I first started training with TechSkills by taking CCNA and CompTIA Network+. I knew little about computers or troubleshooting computers. My intentions were to gain knowledge, not seek certifications, but presently I have 10 IT certifications! The instructors are always helpful when you have a question, even if they are not your assigned instructor and it is not their area of expertise. The equipment is always up to date and I never had any problems. The online TechLabs were great for me since I work odd hours and have odd off days.
